More than 1,000 Virtua supporters enjoyed a festive evening on March 2 while helping to create a better future for the people of Camden. The Virtua Gala—which featured dinner and dancing to the legendary musical group The Commodores—took place at The Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J.

More than 90 sponsors gave a total of $1.1 million to help make the evening a huge success. Proceeds from the event advance Virtua’s philanthropic commitment to ensuring a brighter and healthier future for children and families in Camden, among other initiatives.

“Virtua has been committed to the well-being of Camden residents since its inception more than a century ago,” said Virtua President and CEO Dennis W. Pullin, FACHE. “Our new Health & Wellness Center in Camden provides even greater access to affordable, high-quality health care, and is one of several programs to directly benefit from the gala and its generous supporters.”

Other gala beneficiaries include Virtua’s Pediatric Mobile Services Program, the CASTLE children’s behavioral health program, and the Virtua Mobile Farmers Market.

During the event, Virtua presented its 2019 Humanitarian Award to Bob Platzer, founder and executive chairman of the PJW Restaurant Group. The leader of a local restaurant empire, Platzer has a long history of giving back to the community. He supports many charitable causes and has created a culture of philanthropy throughout his organization.

“Bob’s record of leadership and generosity illustrates a strong sense of civic and charitable responsibility,” said Pullin. “He exemplifies a standard of excellence for which we all strive, and his service through philanthropy is the very foundation on which community is built.”
