The Diocese of Trenton’s annual Catholic Schools Day of Service takes place in the spring each year, culminating with a blessing by Bishop David M. O’Connell, CM of thousands of toys and other items collected by students in schools across Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Virtua is one of many hospital systems, located throughout those counties, whose Child Life Departments benefit from the generosity of the school children and their families. Students from the Catholic grammar schools in Burlington County visit Virtua Memorial Hospital each June to bring toys, books, gift cards, and handmade thank you cards to be distributed to caregivers throughout Virtua. They get to speak to nurses, physicians, and Child Life Specialists to learn about the importance of their work as philanthropists.
