1880s Society

Virtua Foundation’s 1880s Society Reception will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2019. For more information, please call Virtua Foundation at 856-355-0830.

Held in April 2018, the most recent 1880s Society Reception was truly a memorable evening with nearly 130 members in attendance. Guests were able to enjoy dinner and drinks at The ChopHouse while seeing firsthand the impact of their gifts. The event provided Virtua with the opportunity to acknowledge our 1880s Society members for their generosity and commitment to improving the lives of children and families across South Jersey. Virtua is so thankful to recognize more than 450 individuals and organizations as 1880s Society Members in 2017.

Significance of “1880”

Virtua’s story begins in the 1880s, when two small hospitals in Camden and Mt. Holly opened to serve the needs of their growing communities. Virtua Memorial, originally called Burlington County Hospital, opened in 1880 with just seven beds. Virtua Camden opened its doors in 1885 as the Camden Homeopathic Hospital and Dispensary Association. Its mission was to treat the sick, especially women, who could not afford medical services.

More than 130 years later, Virtua is South Jersey’s leading healthcare provider. Thanks in part to our generous donors, we offer innovative programs and services that improve the health and well-being of families in our community.
